Class Description

Hip hop classes consist of a warm-up, technique exercises, and choreography.

Hip hop is a complete culture that was born and developed within Black and Latinx communities in the Bronx, New York, in the 1970s. Hip hop dance began to take shape at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s.

The style is a versatile and dynamic combination of different dance techniques and movements. Core elements of hip hop include groove, rock, and bounce, as well as various social dances that have developed over time, often referred to as party or foundation steps. Hip hop emphasizes strong rhythm, expressiveness, and a freestyle, or improvisational, culture, which allows dancers to showcase their individuality and creativity.

The dance style can be seen in street events, music videos, and competitions, but it has also become part of dance school class offerings. Hip hop has gained worldwide popularity due to its energy, sense of community, and self-expression, and its broad influence is visible not only in dance culture but also in fashion, music, and popular culture more generally.
